Precision Machine & Manufacturing is committed to the ongoing effort of analyzing our manufacturing operations to find new and better ways to increase throughput while simultaneously reducing inventory and operating expense. By investing in the best people and technology, we work smarter and faster, and manage our resources more effectively as a flow-driven organization. Our relationships with customers are long term, based on shared goals and systems, leading us to function as an extension of their organizations. Since true lean manufacturing involves the entire supply chain, we have established strategic alliances with key suppliers to further streamline and strengthen the entire system.
Definition
"A systematic approach to identifying and eliminating
waste (non-value-added activities) through continuous improvement
by flowing the product at the pull of the customer in pursuit
of perfection."
- The Manufacturing Extension Partnership Lean Network
How "Lean" Works
Lean manufacturing means building to consumption not
to a forecast producing just what is needed, when
it is needed. Simply stated, lean manufacturing helps eliminate
inventory stockpiles that tie up valuable financial and physical
resources and limit a company's flexibility.
|
- Shift the focus of management from existing organization,
technologies, and assets to the product.
- Differentiate value from waste.
Practical Principles of Lean Thinking
- Specify value from the standpoint of the customer.
- Identify all aspects of the value stream for every major product
family, and remove actions that don't create value.
- Continuously flow design, order, and production to lower cost,
improve quality, increase responsiveness, and manufacture products
closer to current customer needs.
- Let the customer "pull" the design, order, and production
as needed to compress lead times.
- Create a permanent circle of value creation and waste elimination
by using current-state/ future-state thinking.
